Come to the hills for a mountain bike ride on expertly-designed downhill tracks. Glentress, 3 miles from Peebles town centre, is rated as 'the best dedicated mountain bike centre in Britain' by Mountain Bike Rider Magazine and offers trails for all grades of riders. Both Glentress, with brilliant trails of all grades and near by Innerleithen offering trails for more experienced riders, have a massive reputation for some of the best mountain biking in the UK and beyond.

Golfing

Like malt whisky, tartan and bagpipes, the ancient sport of golf will always be synonymous with Scotland. But while the majority of golfing tourists head north to courses like St Andrews, Carnoustie or Royal Dornoch, the discerning golfer takes a south turn at Edinburgh.

Cycling

Peebles is on the long route of the signposted Tweed Cycleway. Can you imagine a 90 miles delightful journey along so quit roads from attractive Biggar in the west to fantastic Berwick-upon-Tweed on the east coast? Also the forest of the Tweed at Glentress, Cardrona, Elibank and Traquair offer 60 miles of way marked cycle routes.

Horse riding

The Scottish Border's spectacular forests offer great opportunities for riding away from road traffic. Peebles countryside is ideally suited to testing both horse and rider, but the rider can enjoy some fabulous views en route!

Walking

Set between the Moorfoots and the Southern Uplands, Peebles provides a range of walks to suit all tastes and abilities. Particularly popular an easy riverside walk leads along the beautiful River Tweed from the center of this attractive town.

Fishing

Well known as "The Queen of the Scottish Salmon Rivers", the magnificent River Tweed runs right through the heart of the Scottish Borders. Peebles lies just over 20 miles south of Edinburgh, on the banks of the River Tweed. Although the River Tweed is most associated with internationally famous salmon and trout fishing, there is a wide choice of fishing available, such as perch, grayling, pike and roach fishing.
